Work starts on the mixed use scheme on the Centris site in Leigh Road, central Eastleigh. Planning permission has recently been granted for a mixed use scheme on the former Pirelli works comprising; a neighbourhood foodstore, 54 assisted living apartments and affordable housing.
Sainsbury's have recently announced that they are planning to redevelop their Eastleigh town centre store. Discussions are underway between company and Eastleigh Borough Council although their plans are in the early stages. A new store will contribute to the ongoing regeneration of the town centre by attracting more shoppers, creating additional jobs and encouraging further opportunities for linked trips, supporting other businesses and services within the town centre. It is expected that consultation will be undertaken with the local community before plans are finalised."
A considerable investment is underway at Eastleigh railway station including; a new cafe and waiting facility, a refurbished footbridge and canopies, new toilet facilities and the provision of additional cycle parking. Eastleigh station has seen year on year increases in patronage.
August 2011, mixed use scheme on Station Hill, Eastleigh comprising a 60 bedroomed hotel and 3 retail units commences on site.
Local young people in Eastleigh are to benefit from a new and exciting scheme to transform a town centre location into a youth facility.
This key document will, through the delivery of projects, make it easier for customers and visitors to access the town centre particularly by walking, cycling and public transport. The ETAP which has been prepared by Hampshire County Council (HCC) in Partnership with Eastleigh Borough Council, and has been subject to 2 rounds of public consultation, was formally adopted in April this year. Opened in spring 2009 comprising, a nine screen cinema, operated by "Vue", a 20 lane bowling facility, operated by AMF, Frankie and Benny's a family pizza restaurant (with a 1950's Italian/American style) and Nando's a family restaurant (with a spicy chicken theme). Other operators that have taken space in the scheme include, Prezzo, Monkey Bizness and the Loft Bar/Break Bar.
The Point – Located next to Eastleigh's Recreation Ground this regional centre for art and performance. The construction of a new studio, new studio theatre, public foyer and conference suite plus extended outdoor stage and new landscaping was completed in November 2009.
