Southampton and Eastleigh Retail Study

In late 2010 the Borough Council, jointly with Southampton City Council, commissioned GVA Grimley Ltd to prepare a comparison and convenience goods retail study of the city region.

The study is now complete and the report, plans and appendices are listed below:

The study forms part of the evidence base for the Council’s ongoing work on the local development framework and will be used in the consideration of planning applications for retail development in the borough over the next few years.

A parallel study of the southern part of Test Valley borough was also undertaken for Test Valley Borough Council. Please contact the Test Valley Borough Council for further information.

As part of the background to the study, GVA Grimley commissioned market research consultants NEMS to undertake a detailed telephone survey of 2,600 households in 28 zones across the sub-region. The household survey provides a very detailed picture of retail activity and household shopping preferences across the area. The Borough Council can provide a copy of the full tabulated survey results for a reasonable fee.
