The biggest ever crowd descended on Eastleigh town centre to enjoy the start of the festive season with the launch of the town’s festive celebrations.
A crowd of around 10,000 enjoyed a spectacular firework display over Leigh Road Recreation Ground that followed the official ‘switch on’ of the town Christmas lights by Mayor of Eastleigh Cllr Wayne Irish and Father Christmas.
Mayor of Eastleigh Councillor Wayne Irish said “It was great to see so many thousands of local people in the town enjoying the celebrations. It was a fantastic start to the festive season, I hope that people will enjoy the festive atmosphere and shopping here in the town in the next few weeks up until Christmas.”
Swan Centre Manager Dee Buffone said “It was a great start to the festive period - the town was really buzzing. We had our biggest ever footfall figures in the Swan Centre - the event provided a real boost to the town and its traders.”
The huge crowds also enjoyed a special Christmas lights parade through the streets and a range of activities ran throughout the day including children’s rides and activities, a Christmas farm, rodeo reindeer, a bungee trampoline, a climbing wall and a ‘Spiderman tower’.
