'Gallery this way' project

It's Not My Boyfriend by Katie Corbin

There's a new arts initiative now operating in Eastleigh town centre, known as 'Gallery this way'.  Utilising empty shop windows to offer a platform for emerging artists to exhibit their artwork.  Over the next few months, the shop units will play host to a rolling programme of exhibitions and associated events showcasing leading contemporary artists' work.

By showcasing local artists we aim to make use of discarded space and art can be appreciated by an entirely new public. The empty properties themselves are given a new lease of life which in turn provides a positive impression to local communities and businesses of the town, at the same time give the appearance of productivity. There is nothing more dreary than walking through a town with a number of empty shop units.
