Chair of the Eastleigh Local Area Committee Chris Thomas has reported that there are encouraging signs for the town with new shop lets and increased footfall.
Reporting at last week’s Council meeting he said “Three new businesses have opened in the town in the last two months and there are shop fitters working at two more units prior to opening. I am pleased to report that they are taking advantage of more and more people visiting the town. Footfall figures for August show a 12% increase over the same period last year.”
And Chris highlighted other local projects and events that would help promote the town. He revealed the Town Centre Partnership, with assistance from the Borough Council had launched a money saving voucher scheme. Over 17,000 copies of a booklet offering money saving vouchers from town centre business have been distributed to residents in Eastleigh, Bishopstoke and Chandler's Ford.
“This is a good example of the Council working with businesses to promote the tower. The booklet is packed with money saving ideas and I’m sure people will take advantage of them.”
Christmas will be launched in the town on Saturday 21st November when the Mayor Councillor Pamela Holden-Brown and Santa switch on the festive lights followed by a free firework display. Chris Thomas confirmed that it would be a fun day for all.
“Plans for the Christmas event are progressing well and there will be choirs, an ice rink and a giant slide. Other attractions are planned and a grand parade at 5.15pm will lead to the grand finale at the Town’s Recreation Ground. It promises to be a great day.”
